    Help with British Snider carbine

    I picked up this one. But I am not sure what model is it? Is it cavalry, artillery...
    any help would be appreciated thank you

    The cavalry carbines had only a single barrel band ands yours appears to have two, so perhaps artillery?

        Here we go! 'Portugese contract' Snider artillery carbines were marked 'FA' on the lock plate - The "FA" stands for "Forças Armadas"..."Armed Forces" in Portuguese - and said 'Snider Patent ' on the action. Yours has both these marks.

        Below is an auction site with photos of what I suspect is a match to yours. Also note referencxes to the 'ring' on the cavalry carbine. It was on the left hand side and meant to clip to a shoulder belt to carry the carbine in action. Yours doesn't have one.
