Can anyone help me with this one . I recently bought a nice original ww2 brit lid on the basis of it intrigued me . It's all the usual standards , crows foot m.o.d. , size stamped and dated 1939 . But it seems to be made of aluminium . The top liner screw is brass so whole thing is not only non ferrous , but also non sparking . Where would a helmet like this be worn ?
Somewhere , where you would need a lesser degree of protection such as the magazine directly under a gun turret of a warship perhaps ? where there would be a risk of smacking your nut on a bulkhead but wouldn't want to be wearing anything that could cause a spark that could ignite powder . Ammunition factory ? but why would you need a helmet working there at all ? Mine detecting ? but you could be exposed to fire doing that , so would surely need the protection of the standard issue helmet . Any ideas ?
