The first fake German helmet - British copy stahlhelm

This popped up online as a post-war Finnish helmet, luckily I knew better and now I have it. This is one of the small batch of clone helmets made in 1943 in Britain for training use. This type of helmet shows up in an OSS training vid here: https://youtu.be/yeGmpi50hUE and some other pictures online. It's in decent condition, but unfortunately the liner is torn apart and then stuck together in spots. The exterior is gray with very subtle brown splotches, but also has some rust and a small dent. For how rare this helmet is though, I am just happy to have it.

I believe the British copies were made by Gimson & Slater

Yes that is what I have seen. Supposedly the order was only for 100, but the price was not much higher than a standard MkII, so its likely they made more than just that.

Good to see this example and the information about the manufacture. I will include some images of mine. It is the same construction but painted green, with a light black camouflaging spray. It also has the hand painted national colours and a representation of the eagle. No markings are visible.
