New Scottish Cap badge

Hi guys,
here is a pic of the New Cap Badge for the Super Scottish regiment.
Looks like a piece of cheap tin but what do i know??

As badges go, it's a nice design. My real problem is with those who've decided that all the regiments should be lumped in together. I'd rather that this badge never existed.

Looks like a mickey take - the basic St Andrews Cross & the old lion - borrowed from a car advert or a stereotypical sort of Scottish emblem?
An unsurprising motto I suppose, what's the crown? It's reminiscent of the old Scottish Horse crown - a Scottish job as I recall? Another sop from the Scottish Mafia in government? It can't be a St Edwards Crown, it's made as a seperate piece, so it could be "lost" from the badge if it was.
Similar to the old Home Counties Brigade badge in a way - symbolic but not really representative of the emblems of the component regiments.
Should have the name scroll Grampian Television or something.
Worn with a red hackle by any chance?
Interesting that the best backing rosette they can come up with for this photo has a couple of ruddy great holes already in it.
An uninspiring general purpose badge that's too reminiscent of the Lowland Brigade badge.
No, I can't come up with a better one at the moment.

Has anyone noticed how nowadays, St. Andrews Crosses are being flown by Scottish regiments on armoured vehicles etc. instead of the Union Flag? I have noticed this on footage from Iraq. I don't recall this practice years ago, it just seems to be a new fad.

A few years ago I was working in a (non military) unit abroad, those in charge stated that members of the Scottish sections of the organisation could wear the flag of St Andrew in addition to the Union Flag that everybody in the group wore, & that the Welsh & Irish could also wear appropriate symbols.
You did'nt see the English wearing the Flag of St George at all, just the Union Flag, the Welsh & Irish wore a symbol under the Union Flag.
The Scots wore strips of tartan & the St Andrews Flag above the Union Flag or instead of the Union Flag.
Reminds me a bit of the Aussies I've worked with who argued that Australia should be a republic (not sure who they were arguing with as I took the view they could do as they liked, the British don't care) but at the same time were very hacked off that they were'nt awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal.
Who cares, life's too short & who gets paid enough to worry about those sorts of things?

New Scottish badge

Well,at least the "new" super unit badge still has the ancient motto which,roughly,translates into "no one attacks me with impunity".
That motto was even worn on the heavy brass cap badges of the 71st.Highland Regt. during the American Revolution in 1776...

This badge reminds me of a keg ice cold lager pump clip.
I finally remembered - it's a Scottish Crown.
Let's hope we don'yt have the old Black Watch confusion over the "I" / E" spelling in the motto

Nemo me impune lacessit is the royal motto of Scotland, as well as of the Order of the Thistle.

It is the regimental motto of The Black Watch, The Scots Guards, The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (and previously The Royal Scots Greys) and The Royal Scots. It was also the motto of The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) before they were disbanded.

It was the motto of both The Royal Scots Fusiliers and The Highland Light Infantry, but when they were amalgamated, The Royal Highland Fusiliers pluralized it as Nemo nos impune lacessit (No one injures us with impunity).

In Canada, it is the motto of The Lanark and Renfrew Scottish Regiment and the Black Watch of Canada.

The 71st Regiment of Foot of the American Revolution was Fraser's Highlanders, and was different from earlier and later 71st Regiments of Foot. It was formed in 1775 and disbanded in 1786.

Nemo me impune lacessit has been Scotland's royal motto since at least the 1300s (when a royal coat of arms is first recorded), so I imagine it was the motto of The Royal Scots from at least 1633, and The Scots Guards from at least 1661.

71st.Highlanders

Interesting that the motto is that ancient.I've always been interested in the 71st.because they were in just about in every major action in the Southern Campaigns ,and several in the North, during the Revolutionary War.I have about 6-8 coatbuttons of the 71st.found in Ga.,S.C.,and VA.Used to have a 71st. cap badge with the motto on it too but believe it's in Troiani collection nowadays.

Actually the evidence points to the fact they are cartridgebox badges , not bonnet badges as originally thought.

In Berlin, every Scottish unit used them. Also the Welsh.
I have some left in different sizes. Cars, Trucks, Tanks.
Berlin Garrison was closed in 1994.

What is happening across the Channel. I heard lots off fine regiments whit long traditions are disbanded? And this badge (regiment) is on of the re-enplacments? Is that all about for saving some money at the defence budget?
