    Thanks for all these details. I have got the book with the lists of names of those killed on the first day of the battle of the <ST1Somme </ST1but I did not know, for example, that Harrold was born in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City><ST1London</ST1</st1:City>. The family, I thought were all from the <ST1Nottingham </ST1area.<O</O

    As you can see there is a bit of damage to one of the medals. The story that was told to me by my mother was that my uncle – her brother got into big trouble when, as a boy he sold all of his father’s WWII medals! I suspect he may have been the one responsible for the damage as well.<O</O
