    British Wounded Stripe?

    Hello!

I've just arrived home from a week in the Scottish Borders, and thought I'd show the only piece of militaria I found in any of the many junk and antique shops.

    It's a wounded stripe,but is it British?
Plus any idea on value and which period it is from?

    Kind regards,
    Andy

Yep, ist a British WW1 wound stripe worn on the left sleeve. One badge per wound. You were very lucky to see past four badges!

I have a few in my collection. Most collectors dont know what they are.......you can find them on a good day for about 1 pound each. Ive got about eight in my own collection.

Not sure what dealers sell them for?

        Steve.

Not worn after 1922, officially anyway.
Other types exist, hollow die struck with the ends bent down as tabs to pierce the clothing & fold over the ends of the backing plate.

Nice, here in Canada you can expect to pay about $10.00 for one now.

                You mean like these?

Got dark blue for RN & army "Blues" (& presumably police) & RAF blue ones, but none on khaki or other colours.

Do you have everything in your collection Leigh?

I wouldnt mind a Khaki backed one myself.

I think Leigh really does have everything!

I have 3 brass stripes on a piece of dark blue cloth and have always wondered if it was Royal Navy, maybe it's blues, never thought of that. I also have a few variations but no bullion stripes.

As for prices, I think dealers ask anything up to £10 each.

Re the dark blue - I wonder whether they'd be worn by police, ARP, Civil Defence etc?

Hmmm, the material is the heavy type as in Great War tunics but the colour could indeed point to the ARP.

Hi Guys, I once had a USAAF Officers British tailor made "Ike" jacket back in the 1980's when I collected US kit and that had metal wound stripes identical to the examples that Andy has bought and these were being used as Overseas service stripes.

                          Cheers, Ade.
