    Colour photos of RFC Officers?

    Top 'o the morning!

Perchance, does anyone have a colour photo of a RFC Officer in the four pocket service tunic? I am hoping to find a close match in a modern shirt and tie for display until I can find the real deal. (It could takes years to find a real pair )

    - Or if anyone has info that could point me in the direction of the authentic items please let me know

Thanks for your help in advance.

You know, the Royal Flying Corps during WWI wore the same issue gear as the rest of the British Army when it came to field service material, like that side cap. What you should look for is an Army Officer's brown shirt from the period in wool with a removeable collar. Then add a tie bar to get that pinched look (something you might need to find in an antique store) along with the typical knit, square bottom tie. He will look great.

I`m always amazed at the quality items that are posted here.

To be honest period studio shots of the four pocket service tunic are ten a penny. I dug this one out of my own collection, its about as close as a four pocket service tunic could get to the enemy!

The tricky part is to find them in colour.

Since I know it might be a while before I can find a real period piece shirt and tie I wanted to get a good image of the colouring so I can buy myself a modern shirt and tie to display on my mannequin temporarily.

                Thanks for the help again.

When I get home I'll post a quick photo of my RFC stuff for you guys.

The shirts are can be purchased from any good stockist of reproduction WW1 Brit gear. Price will be 40 Brit available in two colours, an exact reproduction.

If you are fussy, a few more tips:

Try and get a pre 1918 stamp dated sam browne.

Make sure the side hat you buy isnt an OR's. Look for a bladed badge and if possible a label inside. The London retailers are always a good one to find.

Just a plain walking out cane will do. Most of the swagger sticks I see are OR's. Officers no better than put their hands in their pockets when walking out.

If you want something for your dummy to hold try and find a map board. Ive seen a number of these on Ebay in the last year.

                        Steve.

P.S. You can view a four pocket service tunic on display with shirt at the Great War Flying Museum in Ontario.

Does anyone have a list of websites for reenactors gear? I have been googling for sites but have not found anything great.
