Teddy bear coat for ATS

Not somthing one see evryday... It has a label inside dated 1942 and marked ATS ??????

Smock, Anti Aircraft, (Wool Pile) ATS

Hi Marc, this is the top of my wife Lez's "wanted list".

Sadly it has been heavily modified post war. The front has been cut and opened up to a full length opening. They were originaly lace up to the front and not fitted with toggels.

I should also add that the slash pockets are another non original addition.

From talking with some of the ATS Ladies last week (July 4-9) some mods similar to those above were done by them. It made it easier to put on and take off also pockets for cold hands, when you did not get the gloves.

The last one I saw went for £350, unaltered.

Were also with the "teddy bear" set mittens/gloves? Outside artificial fur, inner part is leather.

Were they for specific purpose?

I have seen also picture of women pilot from 1939/40 with "fury" looking gloves, but picture was not enough clear to see all details.
