in tropical climates the need to wash uniforms very often lead to the use of press studs for fixing cloth badges to them , rank stripes , formation signs even shoulder titles , this helped the quick removal of the badges for washing the garment , it has been suggested this was a tactical reason to help remove insignia before engaging the enemy ......????? not quite sure about that

Para wings ( and AIRFORCE wings ) can be found with press studs but some times a metal plate was fixed on with a pin style fixing ,
if any one has any hard n` fast evidence regarging if this was done by individual soldiers or by the manufacturer when a batch was obtained i would be very keen to know.

Another way was actual holes placed in the uniform above the breast pocket to fix the pin through , i have only seen this feature on ` bazzar` made uniforms , if any one has seen this on issue manufacture uniforms please let me know ,ta

here are a few INDIAN airborne cloth items , these are a few examples of what can be classed as the basic ` offical ` para wing worn by I,A units and the most common type found but there are many many more strange and wounderful types to be found as the were many small para trained units /individuals all over the place.
the construction and style of even this type can differ but the basic design is ` kind of ` standard .

A printed `INDIA ` PEGASUS ,these tend to have a smoother softer feel than the " normal " pegasus ,i have woundered if this is because they were made out in the far east under different manufacturing conditions than the uk ?
if any one can state they were manufactured in the UK as well /or exclusively in the far east please shout up .CHEERS MICHAEL.

Hiya help needed from our canadian guys please , just a thought but were printed Pegasus signs / Airborne strips manufactured in Canada at all or were they exported from the UK ???

but if there is such a thing as a canadian printed one and a uk printed one ......and there is a difference ....well i want one

Canvas pegasus or AIRBORNE strips were not produced in Canada, but towards the end of the war, after the battalion had returned to Canada, they did produce a cloth Canadian-made shoulder title and a pegasus patch. Ken Joyce will be able to provide the definitive answer!

India Peg and Cdn Form Badges

Hi Guys

That was the one question I had earlier. I know the India Pegasus pictured is Indian made. It is made in a very crude way. When one looks at how the maroon is dyed over the blue, its as if it was done one at a time. A very lengthy process, Stupid actally. Thats why they are all so different. You know, that said, I suppose in India you could afford to hire an army of people to print badges! I know, from a photograph in an Chindit book, that there was indeed a UK made style of printed Pegasus. It is on drill No. 2 material like half of the other UK Pegasus. It is clear by te sharpness and detail of it however', like the thin lettered Airborne strip, I've never one up close??

As for Canadian stuff. Gary is correct. No printed, or at least in the Uk style, badges were made for the Canadian Army in Canada. They had experimental stuff like printed CANADA titles etc. but nothing mass produced. I still wonder where the Amphibious Training ( Task) Force 9 -bowie knife- was made? Both US and Cdns got them and it looks like it was done in the UK style. Probably made somwhere out in Victoria or Vancouver I suppose.
