Hi Paul, not a subject I know much about, but I have a feeling you are correct in thinking that.

      Cheers, Ade.

I would imagine that this badge was indeed worn by early R.N. commandos. It must however be realised that these were also worn by any personnel that used non standard uniform e.g. Khaki battledress. There is also a similar title with 'commando' below which I believe is in current use. When this was introduced I don't know. Looking at the backing, which seems to vary enormously on R.N. badges, I'd have to think well post war.

Further, when wearing regular R.N. uniform the shoulder arc would be 'commando', Royal Navy being superfluous, and the colour being appropriate to the uniform worn. This has now been done away with and the commando dagger badge is worn on I think the left cuff.

Royal Navy is now worn on slip on epaulette titles on the blue 'Wooly Pulley' and Action Working Dress. Who would have thought they needed reminding what they had joined

Thanks for the replies Ade and Jim.I can't really say either way on this one lads.I appreciate the same badge would have been worn by other Naval personnel and as to whether its WW2 or not?The backing is very similar to a 4 Commando flash I have for what its worth, but who knows?Fortunately it was a fairly cheap aquisition. All the best,

          Paul

Paul, the style of embroidery is typical WW2 period, in my opinion.

            Check this thread out, http://www.wehrmacht-awards.net/foru...ad.php?t=22555.

            Thanks, from Jack.
