    SAS beret

I like what is the difference between a beige sas beret and a red one?
is the beige one given to desert troops?
And I also like to know what are good reference books for british headgear?
And my last question is, is this a genuine ww2 sas beret?

The sand coloured berets were worn by SAS troops in N.Africa. Some of those guys chose to keep wearing them in Europe to show they were "originals". SAS troops in Europe except those "originals" wore the standard red airborne beret.

There is no reference book deciated to British headgear as far as I know?

I saw that beret on ebay and my impression is that it is a clever put together

Looks more khaki than sand coloured to me, but it might be the photo.

Hi Guys, I would agree with Kevan, it is not a sand coloured beret but a khaki one. The beret I feel is original. But like Des points out I suspect this has been put together to fool the unwary.

          Cheers, Ade.

Yeah, I agree with the above, plus the cap badges is a modern produced example.

And in the end someone with more money than sense paid £260 for it

Do you agree that Kangol always used blackened brass grommets? Or did they indeed at some point use brown?
                  Regards, Luc

Hi Luc, I cannot say for certain on the colours used, but my 1945 dated khaki beret made by them uses black grommets.

                    Cheers, Ade.

                      Hi Ade,

I just checked my pictures of various wartime berets: all manufacturers used blackened grommets for green, maroon and black berets. I have one picture of a 1945 maroon beret from unpotex (?) that has no grommets but that could be a fake.
                      Cheers, Luc
