    British Bakelite Lightweight Binoculars

Can anybody give me some info on a set of small British Bakelite Lightweight Binoculars that I picked up. BInoculars are broadarrow marked. Been told were issued to WW11 Airborne troops or possibly used by S.O.E or Aircrew . They are almost like opera glasses with only about 2 or 3 power with approx 42MM objectives.

    TIA

    Hugh

    Hi Hugh,

This is a new item to me: I know the standard military 6X NoII binoculars, the bigger 7XMKII and the private purchase monocular but not a small bakelite one.
Could you post a picture please?
    Regards, Luc

Hugh, it's a very nice (and cute) piece of kit, however I doubt it saw widespread use amoung the airborne forces.
Isn't Gen Urquhart wearing one in this picture? (taken from Mark Hickman's website www.arnhemarchive.org)

Are they not German - the inscription, the belt fittings & the fastener?
