This badge is to the Leeds Pal but looks very odd compared to K&K. Opinions please

Yes, strange - but have a look at Gaylor's book.

About 20 years ago I bought what appears to be the same badge - very obvious small head on one of the owls, but it was cast.

I've never seen it as a struck badge - I'm not sure, but even some of the little flaws on the shield may be replicated on my cast version.
Gaylor's book shows what is clearly this small headed owl version, whether it's cast or struck that he shows I don't know.

It's badly crafted as a struck piece, presumably the cast items were patterned from one of these stuck ones, but when were they struck / cast?

Personally, I'd take a chance on this, depending on price of course.

My cast version of the Leeds Pals cap badge - it's very similar to the struck one subjest of this post, the most obvious similarity being the different sizes of the owls heads.
