    Brittish ww2 kitbag?

    G'day to all

I have found following item today while cleaning up my grandmothers cellar. I have absolutly no idea what it could be, although I believe it is a military issued bag. The question is, which era and which nationality? It's made of rough canvas type material. No markings found so far.

My grandmother told me that many brittish fieldgear-items were bought just after the war by civilians overhere in Flanders. The brittish army went from village to village to provide military jerrycans, blankets, etc...for very cheap prices to help out the locals...therefore I thought it might be brittish ww2?

    Any input is highly appriciated!

ps : please see also following link, in which I posted another un-identified similar "find" from the same source some time ago. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ghlight=kitbag

    Cheers

      Hi Jan,

To me that looks like a standard British/Commonwealth WW2 kit bag. I had a Canadian one from WW1 that looked almost identical (design did not really change). I am not sure about the other bag but it could possibly be RAF issue?

        Hi Des

Thanks a lot for your reply

I know of a RAF collector in my area. I will try to contact him about the other bag, maybe he can confirm it.

        Cheers

Hi Jan, it could be a kit bag, but this type of bag was used for tent parts or could be bought as private purchase by Officers. I have several similar ones. But I think you are safe in saying WW2 British in origin.

The other bag is not RAF issue; they were white with a blue band. Once again it could be wartime British, but I much prefer the tan coloured one.

          Cheers, Ade.
