Help with badge fixing

Hi
Does anyone know the reason for this fixing.Slider has been removed and this hinged devise attached. This in turn looks to have slide fixings for attachment to something else.
Any ideas?

My initial thought was that it had been converted to a sweetheart item, but this fitting is very ugly and I cannot think of a possible purpose for it?

You are correct,it sure is ugly. Picked it up for £4.00 just because it was strange. I wander if I will ever know the reason for this??

Hi Andy,

That is a funny fixing; if it were the other way around you could hang it from the pocket of your blazer but this doesn't seem to make sense at all.
Not a clue mate, a money clip perhaps?

Originally spring loaded? I go along with money clip unless there was originally a bit more to make it a place card holder or similar.
