    Polish Wound stripe-Att Gary Jucha

    Hi Gary
I mentioned your name as you have been kind enough to have helped me in the past with my Grandads Polish medals and I would like to pick your brains again. I have just got a book about World wound badges in which it mentions a Polish honour badge for the wounded. It states the following:

A ribbon in the colours of the Viirtutu Militari Medal was worn and a silver star for each wound was attached to the ribbon. the ribbon is blue with 2 black central stripes.

The reason I ask is that I have the attached ribbon with Grandads medals. He was wounded and invalided out at Monte Casino and I was wandering if this is a so called wound stripe or just a coincidence.I never put any significance to this ribbon before.
    Your help would be appreciated
    thanks

Depends on the width of the ribbon - it looks like you're showing the small size as per the wound ribbon.

In light blue it's communist issue, in Garter blue Army in the West issue, looks like you have a faded Garter blue but I can't be sure from the photos.

        Many thanks
Ribbon width is quite small-just about 5/8ths.

Sounds right - I've just dug out communist type enamel one, I'll hunt out a cloth one.

The enamel one measures about XXXXXXXX198mm xXXXXXXXX why the sodding hell won't this thing let me delete or edit typos?

          The enamel one measures about 19mm x 9mm, the clothe about 53mm x 15mm.

A bit of a Write up on the wound badges.

It's from the web site Orders And Decorations Of Poland.

Looks like he never bothered to wear one?

Unless that little hole at the end of the ribbon means that he put one there to leave plenty of room for all the others he thought he'd collect.

Just another quick question. Can anyone tell me if this wound badge would of come with a certificate. And if so, what do I look for?
                    Thanks

Yes it did come with a certificate. It can be on a regular paper or the same type of paper the KW cross or KZ awards. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more variations.

                        Agreed

                        I agree with Billy B. ....
I've seen one or two of the wound certificates ... again they seem to vary in style depending on where they were issued.

I think it should say ODZNAKA ZA RANY. Which unit was he in? Post some pictures
