Brass Canadian para badge

Brass Badge

I collect to the 1st Can Para and the badge looks good to me...I have never seen a good quality copy of the brass badge.

Well, it's not a thin, crappy badge by any means. The strange discoloration on the reverse only apppears in the photos. So far I have more thumbs up on this than down... nothing concrete from anyone yet. If it is a repro, it is the best one I have ever seen. If someone knows for certain that this is a repro (ie: they know where to obtain more) then I would sure like to hear about it. Thanks for the feedback so far.

I suppose it all boils down to how much and where it comes from ,Appart from TR stuff ,special forces stuff has to be the most widely faked ,nowadays its almost impossible to tell a restrike from an original and they have been restriking for 30 years!.On the badge you post there isnt any wear tear or ingrained dirt or dust ,these are just my opinions .Rob.

It really does look like a typical brand new restrike in the photos so I'd suggest that you're not going to get a worthwhile opinion from Brit badge collectors if the appearance of the badge is completely altered by being photographed.
Always the trouble with photos of metal badges.

The badge looks fine to me, the moulding etc, but he looks indeed new. I got one to but mine looks a bit darker. If this is a fake one, its the best they make!
Its very difficult to tell from a picture with this kind of stuff...

Not still in use today? The pin at the back is very old fashioned, and lets face it, how many people had the foresight to hang onto old moulds. Admittedly some wartime moulds are still used today ie my Returned Servicemans Badge that I got from East Timor is the same as my Grand Fathers, but the fasteners at the back are modern pin types and the WW2 type has the same as your para-badge.

You'd be surprised, but many makermarked cap badges from J.R.Gaunt from London or Marples and Beasley from Birmingham are in fact restrikes.

Luc's right. If you can find a original Gaunt marked Para Regt cap badge (or AAC) for that matter, I'd be very surprised. I'm not sure if they even existed?

I agree Jack, I never even found a genuine para or AAC cap badge with a slider only lugs. But we're going off topic.

Johnsy, not sure what you are asking .... no, the cap badge is not in use anymore, in fact it's post war equivilent, the Canadian Airborne Regiment (which had a different badge) no longer exists either... or did you mean something else?

Any of the repro badges that I have encountered so far have been the wrong size, construction or lacked details. This badge is correct in details and size and only causes a doubt because of the "look" of the brass that it is made of and the fact that it is absolutey factory mint.

Good Badge....

Once again, I think that this badge is fine. I compared it to a high resolution photo of one in my collection and they are identical.

I would not worry at all about the fact that it is mint. These badges were issued later in the war and many of the veterans continued to wear the plastic badge so the brass one they were issued often went in the kit bag.
The battalion ordered a large quantity of these near the end of the war and I am sure that there were plenty left over that were never issued.
