    Motorcyclist's overcoat

I will try to post pictures later, but I found an old English Motorcyclist's overcoat that I had been storing in my closet for years.

It is dated 1944 with the arrow. I think it was made by a Manchester company and the label says something like Motorcyclist, Overcoat. Rubberized.

Its in just about mint condition and the size is huge (it says for a 6 foot tall man).

Any idea of rarity and value?

    Thanks

I had one to a SAS veteran and got rid of in trade for a 60 quid medal. I always wondered what a SAS veteran would be doing with a dispatch riders coat then I came here to the forum and saw all those photos of the Belgian SAS riding motor bikes (much slapping of foreheads )

The veterans name was Hub Wolvers, he was Polish and after his service with the Merchant Navy he switched to the SAS.

I also had he special forces combat smock........far rarer than a Denison smock in full camo. This I sold in cash for 50 quid........talk about being had!

    Steve.

I've got one of these, had it for years, rolled up in the garage somewhere. Might have the gaunlets to go with it, got a pulp helmet & a D.R.'s tin lid but I don't think that they'll ever go on display.

I know what your mean, its a huge monster. Must have been a real bear to have to haul that bugger around.

I don't think this was ever worn, so I can't say it was SAS--sigh.

Hi Patrick, I would guess around £40 tops? They are not very good sellers I think? I cannot recall seeing any for sale recently, or if I have, I have not checked the asking prices. But a few years ago they used to make about £25.

          Cheers, Ade.

I agree with Ade on the price. They are not that rare or sought after. As for the SAS well they used a wide variety of British army uniforms & equipment during the war. Take this photo for example

              Thanks for the information.

I bought it because I when I saw it, I thought: "Hey, what a neat thing, a motorcylist's overcoat!". Then promptly tossed it into a closet and forgot about it for 4 years or so. Now, I am thinking about selling it, but the idea of trying to ship the darn thing or even haul it off to a gun show is daunting. Its huge, weighs a ton, and doesn't fold up nice a neat. It would be like shipping a tent.

Maybe if it was worth a bunch... perhaps it will go back in the closet until someone makes a movie about WW2 British DRs and every one starts collecting these things. THEN, I will make a killing
