Help, Helmet Plate?

I've recently had a couple of bits come in, not my collecting interest but still interesting. The first is this, I don't know what it is but guessed a helmet plate.

any information would be very much appreciated.

Definitely not a helmet plate, but likely a furniture fixture of sorts as mentioned.

Thanks for your help, now pointed out it does look like it's off furniture. A friend who has a house clearance company always puts all the stuff that is military,and in this case not, into boxes and hands them over to me. Sometimes he turns up gems.
