    Hi Guys,

Been offered this for my collection.... any ideas what a fair price is to pay for an 1853 these days?

If I had it up for sale in the shop I'd be hard pressed to get over 200 quid for it

Any regimental markings? That might add a couple pounds if to an 'interesting ' unit.

I can not read the maker mark and it would be important to know if it has British military inspection marks or not.
In the US this pattern is often sought due to their wide import during the American civil war, mostly by the south. Those imports tend to meet one of several marking profiles (including completely unmarked) and one version with a brass guard.

Hi Phil, the seller says it is stamped "HYC276" ?

            Hi Peter,

Has markings of "HYC276" on it?

"HYC 276". Hmm. The only thing which springs to mind is 'Hyderabad Cavalry and all three of the Hyderabad units were 'Lancers', so that's not it. Too bad. '3rd Dragoon Guards' or something similar might have added a little to the value.

YC could denote Yeomanry Cavalry. Hampshire YC or Herts. YC possibly ?

That makes a lot more sense! I'm going to blame 'to much blood in my caffeine stream' for my earlier post.
