I saw "Jojo Rabbit" a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Satire at it's best. Excellent performances by a talented cast, of a sensitive script that is finally able to be portrayed today...75 years after war's end. And the research that went into creating this film is first-rate IMHO.

Great flick, and one you can take the wife to.
THe acting is terrific all around, but the 2 boys are the best.
ScarJo (whom I am not really a fan of) also did a terrific turn as the mother of JoJo.

Uniforms were actually very good, down to the wrappers for the HJ daggers!

I just got back from the cinema.

I rather liked it, too, although, to be honest, I wasn't quite as thrilled by Scarlett Johansson in that role. It's not that I found anything wrong with her acting, but somehow, I just don't buy her as a 1940s German housewife. (Although she was not as grossly miscast as Rebel Wilson, who just annoyed me.)

The rest of the cast was top-notch, though, from Waititi's hilarious "fantasy Hitler" or Roman Griffin Davis and Thomasin McKenzie as our youthful protagonists to all the often quirky supporting characters (of which Stephan Merchant as the Gestapo agent Deertz was my favorite). Sam Rockwell was great, too, but he always is.

It's well-crafted in every other respect, too, from the cinematography and editing to the clever and original use of music to the skillful way it pulls off some tonal shifts and inserts genuine and quite impactful drama into its last act.

Definitely worth checking out.

(And best of all, its an original movie, in both senses of the term: It dares to be different and it's not a remake/reboot/reimagining/sequel/prequel/sidequel/spin off/rip off of something, which seems to be getting rarer every day.)

Attended the performance yesterday, together with my kids. We all enjoyed the movie.

I can only second what HPL2008 wrote and add, that other interesting character is Yorki (Archi Yates), after Hitler, second best friend of Roman Griffin Davis.

Jojo: Yorki? Yorki: Jojo! [in his excitement he drops the grenade launcher he was carrying and it shoots a grenade, exploding the building nearby]
Yorki: Oh, God.

after the occupation (liberation) of the city by both, Americans and Russians:

Jojo: Nothing makes sense anymore.
Yorki: Yeah, I know. It’s definitely not a good time to be a Nazi.

And final quote of captain Klenzendorf, many soldiers would confirm:

Captain Klenzendorf: So, a little about me. Who am I, and why am I here, talking to a bunch of little t*tty-grabbers instead of leading my men into battle towards glorious death? Good question. I’ve asked it myself every day since Operation Screw-Up, where I lost a perfectly good eye in a totally preventable enemy attack. And according to my superiors, you need two eyes to be a meaningful part of the war effort.

Completely agree! Great movie from start to finish and packed with laugh out loud scenes. Well-deserved ‘best adapted screen play’ Oscar.

When I saw it in a local theater they showed various clips of 1940 anti Hitler movies in order to put Jojo Rabbit in that context. don't know if this was done in other theaters. As a side note when I got on my flight from Houston to San Francisco it was playing on all the video screens on the airplane.

Watched it with the wife but did not enjoy it - switched it off after 30 or so minutes. I do enjoy comedies but did not think this movie was particularly funny.
