I bought a box full of German war memoirs on the weekend, and Albrecht Wacker's "Sniper on the Eastern Front" was in there. I've wanted to read this book for years, but always saw conflicting information about its accuracy, specifically concerning Sepp Allerberger's existence. I've dug through some old threads here and it seems as though his existence and exploits are accepted, but there's surprisingly little to no information available about him beyond this book, which I find peculiar for a Knight's Cross recipient and one of the Wehrmacht's most successful snipers. I'm enjoying the book either way, but can anyone shed some light on Allerberger's story?
