    Rammstein - Deutschland (Official Video)

This might be of interest to some here, it's the video for the new Rammstein song 'Deutschland'. This went online a couple of days ago and already has 15mn views. Keep an eye out for Roman armies in wolf ridden forests, Hindenburg in flames, V2 rockets, a U-boat on moon base, Polizei, SA, SS, KZ, Stasi, Baader meinhof (probably) and lots more iconic 20th Century German imagery. The song is excellent and the video is well worth checking out if you haven't already.

Rammstein is on my playlist when I’m lifting heavy in the gym and have heard this. Not sure I quite understand what’s going on in the video though.

Is the red light to illustrate Germany is continuous and the video illustrating the important periods of German history and culture which creates the difficulty in being patriotic or is it just another mental Rammstein video?

Wow, I didn’t realize these guys were still in the game. I saw them in Pittsburgh in 2001 during their Mutter Tour. A great show, lots of pyrotechnics. Surprised they didn’t burn the venue to the ground that night.

But the video is interesting on many levels. Thanks for posting by the way.

Being a one time hardcore Rammstein fan, I would chalk this up to typical “creativeness”. Which, I think this Deutschland video is as well. But ... there is a hint of something. I don’t think it’s nationalism as the portrayed Nazis meet their doom. But perhaps there are bits and pieces of German history scattered throughout, including Baader Meinhoff, which I think is also the right call as it looked that way to me as well. Perhaps just a highlight of German history?

I wonder how German would view this video. Many, who are not fans of the music might just call it Scheisse. I don’t know.

Funny in that while watching it, I couldn’t help but think how cool the video would be if they shown clips of the German National Team, (Deutsche Fussball Bund), beating other clubs. France, England, Argentina, Italy, etc. (from past to current squad)

I think it would make one heck of a great promo video for the upcoming Euro 2020.

      Just my thoughts.

Never liked them and will never like them. To be controversal is the easy way to get highlighted again from nowhere ...
They are well beloved in the US where most people even dont understand their music.

I think its a bit of column A and a little from column B ! It seems to be designed for different interpretations & I am not sure there is a single point or just a series of observations.

Saw the 2019 tour sold out in minutes which is a shame, I've never seen them live but would love to. They played in Dublin in 2012 but I missed them for some reason.

I think it's good if German artists are past having 1933-1945 as a bit of a deadzone. This video seems to place that timeframe in the overall context of violence and conflict in the country's history. My take on the video would be the red light is the beacon of 'civilisation' from Germany to the rest of the world. Whenever Germania is swinging the sword red beams appear from behind her so it could mean wars and conflicts propel technological advancements. I was thinking maybe the 2 guys slugging it out with knuckle dusters could be the National Socialists vs Communists ? It seems Weimar anyway. In terms of other weirdness and themes there are lots of hanged men throughout, lots of space stuff too, between the 'moon base U97' (pretty sure this is a movie in itself) and V-2 rockets (first man made objects in space) followed by Stasi/CCCP astronaut, and the main astronauts part of the footage. The main part of the video seems to revolve around violence and conflict though so possibly it's saying this is the normal cycle. Interesting stuff imo.

            Hello.

Yep, I think that’s a well thought out interpretation.

Well, whatever the hell is going on, it’s interesting!

            Cheers mate.

            Chris.

Never been a fan, they always seemed to me a pale watered down imitation of Laibach. But this song? Die Krupps explored the same territory more than 25 years ago, lyrically and visually:

              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_97qEJ2Raw

and the remix, just because its much better:

              and yes, they're German too.

For those interested (and when knowing a bit of German), here the lyrics
as found on the Internet. And so you can make up your mind:

                [Strophe 1]
Du (du hast, du hast, du hast, du hast)
Hast viel geweint (geweint, geweint, geweint, geweint)
Dein Atem kalt (so kalt, so kalt, so kalt, so kalt)
Das Herz in Flammen (so heiß, so heiß, so heiß, so heiß)
Du (du kannst, du kannst, du kannst, du kannst)
Ich (ich weiß, ich weiß, ich weiß, ich weiß)
Wir (wir sind, wir sind, wir sind, wir sind)
Ihr (ihr bleibt, ihr bleibt, ihr bleibt, ihr bleibt)

                [Refrain]
Deutschland – mein Herz in Flammen
                Will dich lieben und verdammen
                Deutschland – dein Atem kalt
So jung – und doch so alt
                Deutschland!

                [Strophe 2]
Ich (du hast, du hast, du hast, du hast)
Ich will dich nie verlassen (du weinst, du weinst, du weinst, du weinst)
Man kann dich lieben (du liebst, du liebst, du liebst, du liebst)
Und will dich hassen (du hasst, du hasst, du hasst, du hasst)
                Überheblich, überlegen
                Übernehmen, übergeben
                Überraschen, überfallen
                Deutschland, Deutschland über allen

                [Refrain]
Deutschland – mein Herz in Flammen
                Will dich lieben und verdammen
                Deutschland – dein Atem kalt
So jung – und doch so alt
                Deutschland – deine Liebe
                Ist Fluch und Segen
                Deutschland – meine Liebe
                Kann ich dir nicht geben
                Deutschland!
                Deutschland!

                [Bridge]
                Du
                Ich
                Wir
                Ihr
                Du (übermächtig, überflüssig)
                Ich (Übermenschen, überdrüssig)
Wir (wer hoch steigt, der wird tief fallen)
                Ihr (Deutschland, Deutschland über allen)

                [Refrain]
Deutschland – dein Herz in Flammen
                Will dich lieben und verdammen
                Deutschland – mein Atem kalt
So jung – und doch so alt
                Deutschland – deine Liebe
                Ist Fluch und Segen
                Deutschland – meine Liebe
                Kann ich dir nicht geben
                Deutschland!

Thought i would give it a watch and saw it has had an impressive 22,684,690 views no less!

Not really my cup-of-tea but I have several 'metal-head' friends over here who appreciate the unusual in music and often mention Rammstein (and Laibach) as worth listening too.

Not really sure about the video to be honest, certainly worth a watch but with that amount of views on YouTube it has certainly connected with a lot of people out there.

                  Regards Richard.

IMO, nothing in the video is random. It is a tour through the pathos of Germanic history. It's full of blatant images as well as Easter eggs. The lyrics talk of the conflicted nature/dysfunction/what ever you want to call it of the relationship Germans have with their identity.
