Book Review-The Washing of the Spears (A classic)

    Hello folks,
In my opinion this book by Donald R. Morris is the bible on the Zulu Nation and the Zulu Wars. Published in 1965 by Simon & Schuster, the author put into concise terms the events that led up to this conflict. This book is a must and rates as one of my top 10 military history books. Do yourself a favor and try to get a hold of a copy.
    Regards,
    Jody

I totally agree - A great read and it is the only reference to have if you wish to know about the Zulu Nation.

I've been reading everything I can about Africa in the 19th Century. This most certainly gets a thumbs up. My copy also belonged to my grandfather and was a book he always enjoyed so this book is one that will always be in my collection.

        I'd also recommend:
        *Queen Victoria's Little Wars
        *Scramble for Africa
        *The Great War in Africa

I've read all of these recently. I'm working on a board game about the colonization and empire building in Africa. Was going to be world focused but another friend and I were on that game and I didn't like the direction, so instead I'm making a game devoted to Africa.

If you can read the chapter about Rorke's Drift in Washing of the Spears without chills running up and down your arms, you're just a "slovenly soldier!"

          A top-noth book; well-researched and very well-presented.
