I watched the show and was pretty disappointed. The notion that she was captured by the Japanese has been around for awhile. There was a story on Fox right after the show that showed the photo was from a Japanese tour book that encouraged people to come to the islands in 1935 , so way before Amelia. I don't believe the Japanese had anything to do with this story, and even if she did land in their mandates, it's my opinion that they were seeking a better relationship with the US and what better way to show that than by helping her and getting her back to US representatives.

The USS Indianapolis was found by the Zillionaire Microsoft co-founder. That's great but why not spend some money on Amelia Earhart search?
