"Why Can't Somebody Just Die Around Here?"

There's a great new book,"Why Can't Somebody Just Die Around Here?", written by Gerhard Maroscher, that transports the reader into a once peaceful agrarian society and follows a young family's journey from their ancestral land, into the terror and horror of WWII.
But this book offers much more. The appendix is a treasure trove of original and translated documents, followed by stories from those who survived Soviet forced-labor camps and experienced the humiliation of Communist dictatorships.
Little-known historic facts, such as the Morgenthau Plan, a plan to starve people into submission, should peek the interest of both history buffs and serious war scholars.

Thanks for the heads up. It looks to be a great read. More here at the book's web site.

Thanks Dan for the great review and Larry for your interest in the book. I’m the author of “Why Can’t Somebody Just Die Around Here?” Here are a few facts to add to Dan’s review. In WWII my dad served in the Romanian, Hungarian, and German armies. We were ethnic German citizens of Romania. Eventually we were blessed to come to the USA and Dad became one of the best Americans I’ve known. He demonstrated the American Dream in action became and engineer who helped put a man-on- the-moon. Mom, however was the hero who saved my brother’s and my life a number of times, including the time she “negotiated” with a Nazi administrator of a refugee camp with a pistol pointed at his head. My book won the won the “Outstanding Non-Fiction: History” category in the Independent Author Network (IAN) 2016 Book of the Year awards! If you want to read history that reads like a novel, this book is for you. I’m selling the book on E-Stand.

Is the hardcopy not available to anyone interested outside of the States?

I can ship a "hard" copy outside the USA but shipping cost is quite high. A while back I sent a copy to Germany and the shipping cost (for a 2 lb. 10 oz. package) was about $33 (going by memory here). To be clear, the book cover is soft-back, not hardback for cost reasons. 364 pages at 8.5 by 11.5 inches. The last 130 pages is the appendix which has many original documents (translated into English). Should you still be interested we can make arrangements for shipping and exact cost thereof.

            Already Hooked!!!

I just received a copy with thanks to Gerhard, and I must say I have already been hooked from the beginning! I will post a thorough review upon completion, however I wanted to give our WAF group a quick regarding this book. I am still cracking up over some of the early stories in the book, and when you read about Wunzu, you will know what I mean!

            Best,

            Jeff

Hi Jeff, most people enjoy the Wunzu story (pronounced Voontsu). The early stories are from the good times before we were thrown into hell on earth. Fortunately, even during those times the reader gets some relief with occasional humor. Thanks for the post.
