Reenactment porn maybe but an interesting different take on ww2 films. I was a little troubled by the seemingly sympathetic view of SS but movie did a good job of telling a soldiers story.
Fat reenactor soldiers and old ones, hmm.
On a side note film, Reenactors paid some of the tab. This movie actually made money. So I guess they have the right and last laugh.

My favourite part was the wrong date for Normandy invasion.

After seeing some of the trailers on Youtube way back, I went to the trouble of buying the movie on Blu-Ray and installing the foreign region code on my PC to be able to watch it.

The dialogue scenes between the German soldiers were decent. The sub-plot of apprehension over the constant retreat and fear of Russian armies sweeping into Germany was decent.

The overly long nature scenes were silly. The female voice narrating over the nature scenes was silly and the syntax was screwed up. The lovers prancing about in the woods were unwatchable.

The battle scenes were almost passable for a low budget movie. i don't know why the same "Russian" fighter flew overhead at low speed in every battle scene. The explosions and gunfire were terrible CGI with a Martian green glow about them..

The faux-irony of the spared American prisoner being present to see Ludwig get shot down at the end by the American "Captain" who dramatically racks the bolt of his Garand and shoots him in the back was sort of a cheap ripoff of the last battle scene in Saving Private Ryan.

I had already sort of mentally checked out by that point....
