    Papers Please!

I need a book on Soldbuchs, Wehrpasses, various Ausweis ...

Can you all recommend anything? I know that Emilie Caldwell Stuart (sp?) published something some years ago but I haven't seen one in ages.

Also, thre is Ray Cowdery's book, "Papers Please!"

    What do you recommend?

There are quite a few knocking around but most are out of print....

There are a couple that I neglected buying for years but when I did get them I was pleasantly surprised....

German Third Reich Era Documents, Volume 1 & 2

I am not a document collector but I bought Papers Please and I enjoy refering to it now and again. All colour photos of the various documents with some basic info behind there existence and what can be found on what pages,etc...The table of contents is in German and in "American"(!?), a few pages cover abreviations used (like NSKOV, KVK, etc..), a Sutterlin alphabet and runic alphabet......a good reference book for me.

Same here. I've kept away from docs as I know very little about them. This book is a great introduction to the various passes etc.

        Cheers

I agree, i'm not really a document collector, picking up the odd one here and there, but i found "Papers Please" a great help explainig the basic membership books, passes etc, and from memory it was quite reasonably priced.

If you don't know anything about paperwork then Papers Please probably isn't a bad choice...personally I didn't find it helpful but I have been collecting documents and studying them for years.

It is however a well presented book with a few mistakes!

Emilie's are useful if you can get a hold of them!!! Her first three are long out of print but they do crop up occassionaly on ebay....the Wehrpaß I believe is still obtainable.

Peter Thompson from Australia wrote some books similar in format to Emilie's which are also quite useful, however I have lost contact with Peter and not seen or heard from him for a good few years.....his books also used to be on ebay.

Thats all I can think of at the moment.....I don't have the time to write one myself at the moment

I have these and find them useful.

Only let down by the, somewhat perplexing, omission of an index

              Cheers,
              David.
At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

                  As per Ian's comments.....

Emillies books are quite a usefull guide but at time are quite expensive, via Barnes and Noble there are two copies at $100 and $106 , but you can always try ebay as they turn up there from time to time.

Papers Please is Ok and again can be obtained via ebay

I'm afraid that I'm not familiar with these "Emillies" books. Can someone please post the full titles & IBSN numbers of them so that I may look for them?

                    Cheers
