Yes! Thanks for mentioning it. I ordered a copy.

I am also still reading Russian Asphalt.

Trying to get a sense of what my Dad might have experienced (in some form).

ok here is my own personal take on this book.Dealing with an often overlooked area of ww2 ie German-Slovakians this is an honest account of the beginning of the end for the historic Germanic population of the puppet state Slovakia ,atrocities by partisans ,enrolment into the Slovakian home guard. Finally enlistment into the Hohenstaufen ss division on the German eastern front in march april 45
There are no personal details of battle in this book other than being under fire , though the author hints that he has had battle experience (maybe he omitted this because it was written for his family) but there are lots of details of an ordinary soldier in a beaten dissolving army and state .The editing is a bit iffy in places , some paragraphs are repeated , spellings and some details are confusing but all in all an honest account of this mans last days of the war

Just finished this book. I agree with Terry regarding the editing, but it didn't detract from the content.

Easy to read. And it was what I was looking for...the day - day living vs the army living, if you know what I mean.

                        Worthwhile.
