Despite this book being first published in 1970, I had somehow been unaware of it till recently. I just finished it a few days ago.
As some may know, the book covers both the British and German participants in an RAF bombing raid on the of course ficticious date of June 31, 1943, the height of the 'Battle of the Ruhr."
Deighton's absorbing account goes into tremendous detail , both personal, and technical, from each side's perspective, which I enjoyed, while others may find it tedious.
Suffice to say, the book ends in a series of tragic and profound conclusions for many of the main protagonists. Not an uplifting read by any means, I still enjoyed it very much.
