    Wüstennotstaffel eArticle available

    Hi,

We are very happy to announce the release of Part Two of our electronic article about the German desert rescue squadron, the Wüstennotstaffel, available here: http://www.airwarpublications.com/earticles/frontline

Part Two takes up the story where Part One left off, in May 1942, and continues through to the disbandment of the Wüstennotstaffel at the end of the North African campaign on 13 May 1943. We have chosen to highlight several stories from that period, including the British capture of General der Panzertruppe Ludwig Crüwell (a Wüstennotstaffel pilot was at the controls of the Storch that Crüwell was shot down in), a tale of capture and escape involving the SAS, LRDG, and a Wüstennotstaffel pilot, and the Wüstennotstaffel role in the Luftwaffe evacuation from North Africa. Also featured are some of the dozens of desert rescues undertaken by the unit, and most intriguingly, a sabotage operation carried out by the Wüstennotstaffel during the opening stages of the Battle of Gazala.

Accompanying the 5,500 words of text are photographs, two colour profiles of Fi 156s, four colour maps, and lists of unit losses and rescues of Allied and Axis soldiers and airmen.

Thanks to WAF member and moderator Ian Jewison for his assistance with some research material for this article.

We've devoted a lot of time to researching and writing this unit's story, and hope you enjoy reading the article.

    Regards,
    Andrew, Adam & Morten
