With the release of Fury eminent I decided to go back and re-watch the original classic movie starring a German Tank . This movie was made in 1953 and is one of the 1st movies I ever saw. The plot involves a downed oil exploration crew in the Sahara desert that unearths a German tank that had been stashed by the crew with gems before they expired. The Arabs of course want the gems back. They reactivate the tank and the story goes from there.
I won't go into the whole plot but in re-watching the movie it appears that an original Panther tank was used. Can someone confirm that this is correct?

It's a US M24 Chaffee tank just 'dressed up' to resemble a German tank.

Upon further review I agree it's a Chaffe tank. The fact that it's equipped with a Browning 30 cal machine gun should have been an immediate tip off!
This movie holds a special place fro me as I believe it was the first movie my Dad took me to see.
I also agree it's a great movie and well worth trying to find although it's somewhat rare. I just made 2 backup copies on DVD as insurance.
