    My First DAK Book

Anyone remember this book by George Forty?
I believe it was my first book on the DAK--came out in 1978:

Picked up a copy of both books around 12 years ago. Great photos and first hand accounts, but not enough detail on the battles. Very enjoyable all in all. My first DAK book was Von Mellenthin's masterpiece "Panzer Battles," great details and discussion of the tactics used.

Yeah that one graced my bookshelf many years back too, and I agree with Tim, information was a bit down, the ground breaking work on the DAK were the two books that Dal McGuirk (NZ) had published some years back, which paved the way for more great uniform studies, and the recent After the Battle book on the desert war is a gem for the battles etc.

My first DAK book was "With Rommel in the Desert" in 1967 and I did my first book report in school on it. I still have both somewhere. I think the Ballantine "Afrika Korps" book came out in 1970 and I still have that one too. These are what I found on the shelf still. The Almark book came out in 1971.

My first history love was the DAK as my grandfather's brother was a DAK Spiess, was captured at El Alamein, and was a driver for Montgomery for a period. So because of his stories I became addicted!!

          My First DAK Book

          Hello,
So far I have all of the books mentioned, and I still have them. Here is my first DAK book, my mom bought it for me when I was in 2nd grade (1972) at the local hobby shop. I still look at it (I see that Willi has it too).

          Regards,
          Jody

            Hello,
Here is the first DAK book I bought with my own money. I also purchased it at the same Hobby Shop back in 1975. It was $2.50.
