    Free Germany by Bodo Scheurig

Hello all, Has anyone read the above title. I am interested in accounts of German POW'S in the hands of the Russians. Or is It mostly political based on the Free Germany Movement organization?
Can you recommend any books on German POW'S in Russia??
    Regards, Schroeder

Hi Schroeder, never actually heard of the title that you mentioned but it's a topic that I'm greatly interested in and will look it up.
I've found very few texts dealing with German PoWs and Returnees, particularly in English, although you might like to try Homecomings by Frank Biess, and Sniper Ace by Bruno Sutkus includes a fair bit on his Soviet captivity.
I'd be very interested in reading anything about German soldiers experiences through the final stages of the war, their surrender and subsequent captivity, and post a war experiences. Particularly how they reflect upon their initial motivations, the loss of comrades, PTSD and the ultimate division of Germany. How did these experiences and events affect their sense of Heimat.
A lot to ask, I know.

    Cheers
    Allan
