    From MMP: http://mmpbooks.biz/mmp/books.php?book_id=239

    Looks pretty good!

I'm sure divisional commander Otto Kumm's text history considerably more detailed (and correct)

Appears that the authors have put in a good amount of research in what is an updated history of the division. Breakdown explaining each operation with many photos, maps, and OOB's appears commendable. Looks like it will be of interest to armor enthusiasts as well.

Jugging from the youtube preview it is very strong on photo content. I'd say perhaps 1 or 2 full dedicated photo albums worth seem to be included.

I wonder if it will have good maps. Because, though I love Kumm's text history, and consider it one of the best unit histories, it didn't really have good maps, and following around all the actions in Yugoslavia can be very difficult without any.

Klaus, see the preview. There seems to be several full colour maps in the book. In general, the maps in all those histories (that I have seen) originating from Munin Verlag were poor, sometimes utter crap. Even the old maps of the 1950s official Finnish history of the war are heads and shoulders above what is standard in German unit histories.

Weere you able to read the new book from that preview? If not, I don't think you would like your books to be reviewed by people who have not actually read them...

                Hi pasoleati,

I have no dog in this fight, but I am afraid I agree with Mark.

On the grounds of...? I have read Kumm's book and wasn't impressed. Way below what e.g. Meyer did for 12. SS.

Meyer's 12ss unit history is probably one of the best and most detailed, as well as best mapped histories I ever read! I wish they all can be like that.

And what makes u think this book is any better? You haven't even read it! C'mon man, knock it off.

The very same logic that makes you think it is worse. Or when did you read the book? Plus that I never said it will be better than Kumm's, I just said that I wasn't impressed by Kumm's book.

I never said it was "worse". You got excited over nothing. Mark made an innocent comment and you went bizerks on the man. If you wish not to hear anyone's opinions, then why post a topic? What did you actually think you were going to get out of posting this topic, your income tax? He's a paid member and has a right to post his opinion. Deal with it.

P.S I'm not trying to defend Mark. I don't even know him.

Didn't you? First, Mark wrote:"I'm sure divisional commander Otto Kumm's text history considerably more detailed (and correct) " I think it is safe to say that what Mark wrote meant that he feels that Kumm's book is better and therefore the new book must be worse.

Then you wrote:"...but I am afraid I agree with Mark." Thus you agree with Mark's opinion of Kumm's book being better and therefore that the new book is worse (if A is better than B, then B is worse than A). In other words, you implied that the new book is worse. If you don't consider Kumm's book better than the new one, then don't agree with Mark's comments. You cannot ride two horses simultaneously.

                            As for my original purpose:

-since the book was not mentioned on the forum before, I assumed that other members might be interested in learning of this forthcoming book's existence

-it might be that the author/authors of the book might be followers of this forum and might interject further information about the book.

I think the book looks interesting because, at least from the photos, it seems to focus on the captured tanks used by the PE Division. That is an area that could used some dedicated study, and I hope this new book will provide it.
