help wanted on RAF log book with DFC

    Hi Guy's
I received a lot of RAF documents, photo's, badges etc...from the relatives of a Belgian DFC winner. Some 58 Belgians received the DFC I've been told.
He Flew at night (Boston, Intruder II, Mosquito) with 23th Squadron.
He got killed 07 november 1943.
The lot includes two Pilot's flying logbooks. My question is, what's the value on such a log book?
I have NO intention on selling them, NO WAY. But I've got no idea on the value?
The only sad thing is, there are no medals, so NO DFC. My next question,
as I want to complete this group, where can I find a DFC at which price, and...I've been told "watch out for fakes "
Can someone give me more info?

    Thanks,
    Marc

    Hi Marc,

First off, I would love to see this logbook, can you post any pictures?

On the Value, its a difficult question, my personal guess would be between 200 and 400 pounds for an interesting logbook to a DFC winner. It all depends on the content and the amount of content.

The medal experts here may be able to tell you what a WW2 British DFC is worth. My guess is between 600 and 800 pounds. I have seen several online dealers with DFC or DFC Groupings. Generally 700 pounds and up.

    All the best

    Rob

            Hi Marc,

Wow, that is a fantastic group
Thanks for sharing photos of it.
I espcially like the photo of the proud DFC winner, nice!

Do you know what his rank was at the time of his DFC?

            Best regards

            Rob

I think he was a F/lt. at the moment he received the DFC.
Below is a scan of some of his items. Not much, but always nice when you know the previous owner.
His wife was also in the army in the UK, so the lot includes more as a 100 letters !
              If I only had time...

You're looking at around the £600+ mark for a single, unattributable DFC - if you can find one. It's quite a lot of money for a bit of metal, and it still won't be 'his'. I find the log far more interesting than anonymous DFCs anyway. 418 sqn too I see: night intruder Boston IIs (not Havocs). Odd how he's logged them as 'Intruder IIs' - probably to differentiate the mission profile, with night Boston ops being significantly more hazardous than daytime ones.

A Belgique CdG avec palm will be far easier to locate than a DFC, but for display purposes, a decent copy is acceptable until you're flush enough for the real deal.
