From the end of the film as he talks with Capt Stranski.

            Hi,
            Best film ever imo,
Captain Stransky: I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights.
Sargeant Steiner: Then I will show you, where the Iron Crosses grow.

Rarely I have been so disappointed after watching a film than after The Iron Cross. I found it one of the most terrible war films I have seen, especially given the bloody hype it gets.

No. Willi Heinrich wrote Cross of Iron, which is a semi-autobiographical novel. Robert Forczyk is a modern military history writer, and a very good one! The book is a campaign history of the war in the Crimea.

Great have ordered it on Amazon, can't find too many English language books on the battles in the Crimea so this will fill a hole in the library
