the hidden Hitler -review

just finished "The hidden Hitler" by Lothar Machtan . Basically this book seeks to prove that Hitler was a homosexual ! It starts by rubbishing all the well known biographies of Hitler then moves on with proof of Hitlers homosexuality . This is proved by --He had close friendships ,he lived in a city with a large homosexual population ,he lived in a hostel and such places often housed homosexuals , he slept in the same bed as his friend !! (back in the 70 s I too slept in the same bed as my friends -- I am not homosexual ) , remarks by political enemies and dis-enfranchised former supporters ! He ordered the execution of Rohm,Heines and others not because of the threat of SA led rebellion but because they might reveal to the world his homosexuality ! no where in this book can I find any written proof or facts alluding to this alleged homosexuality of Hitler , it all appears heresay , rumour , black propaganda or foreign press smears! Surely after the war this fact if it was true would have come out ? But no it didn t ! This theme runs right through the book and eventually is casually written as fact ,the author seems to think he has given the reader all the reasons to believe its truth. Other parts of the book are well written and interesting but this (to me anyway) unproven allegation of Hitlers homosexuality is returned to time and again as fact .

Sounds like a poorly written pop psychology puff piece. Thanks for the 'heads up' - I will avoid!

Terry, sounds like you've taken one for the team again. I certainly wouldn't have any inclination to persevere with a book revolved around such a premise.
