To the best of my knowledge, one of the better books out ther is 'MG34-MG42: German Universal Machine Guns' by Folke Myrvang. Published by Collector Grade Publications.

The original wartime training books for MG units are good material for your work. (HDv serial books)Can be found in english language(germanmanuals.com)-I have orig but "old" german language,hard to translate it.

You can also check out websites such as IMA.com and others that deal in both live fire and dewat MG42's and MG34's. I've seen the reference and manuals for sale from time to time.
