    Hi Pete,

    What a good idea!
I myself have over 60 CD's of WW1 and WW2 music from both "sides" during the period.
I like to play them while looking through, and cataloging my small collection; really enhances the "feel" for the time!
There were great artists through both the Wars, although some music is "an aqquired taste!"
Zara Leander, Vera Lynn, Lillian Harvey, Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf, Geroge Formby, Hans Albers, - the list is endless for entertainers during th two world wars!
Some sound awful to modern ears, some seem quite contemporary - not to forget "Charlie And His Orchestra" TR propaganda at the most laughable extreme.

    Very best wishes,

    John.

      Hi Pete,

Been looking through my CD collection this evening, and found several which may be of interest.
Firstly, a 10 CD set entitled "Die Grossen Divas" featuring individual CD's of music by Marlene Dietrich, Marika Rock, Ilse Werner, Lale Anderse, Zarah Leander, Evelyn Kunneke, and Lilian Harvey.
The last three CD's feature tracks by Kathe Dorsch, Hilde Hildebrand, Grethe Weiser, Anneliese Rothenburger, Kirsten Heiberg, Lizzy Waldmuller, Margot Friedlander and Friedel Hensch und die Cypris.
The vast majority of these performances were recorded during the 1930's-40's with a few songs from the early 1950's throughout the discs.
This was released by "TOPTAINMENT MUSIC" Catalogue no: TOP10001 in 2005.
Secondly, a 4 CD box set with booklet insert; entitled "HEIMAT deine STERNE -Deutsche Tonfilmschlager 1921-1945"
This features 78 songs from German musical films by both male and female artists of the times. Issued by "Membran Music" Catalogue No: 220767-354.
No date of publication, but bought at the same time.

      Best wishes,

      John

You've got to just love these of the older generation! The gentlemen and ladies from both sides, we will not see their like again i dont think. They dont make them like the used to!

In their popular revue ‘the three last survivors of the Lili Marleen generation’ promoted themselves saying: “ Was wollt ihr mit drei knödelnden Tenören, hier habt ihr drei echte Berliner Gören” (What do you need with three dumpling tenors for, here you have three real Berlin gals).

          Hi Pete,

It is really amazing that so much popular music from the thirties and forties appears on "YouTube"!
I collect TR period "Lieder Karte" (song postcards) among other themes of items, and all but a few have the original records on "YouTube" or specific TR music web sites.
No one needs to buy CD's at all really, just log-in; and listen!
Being of a certain generation though. I like to have a CD
          Old habits die hard.

          Best wishes,

          John.
