        Hi,

Most of this footage is available on the "Third Reich In Colour" DVD which has been available for many years.
The people in Berlin must have been in absolute despair at the end of the war, everything destroyed; no power or fresh water and Russian soldiers raping and murdering in the streets.
No wonder thousands of Berliners commited suicide.

        Best wishes,

        John.

          Hello Nick,

I agree with your statement, however the film version of this entitled, Anonyma is IMO an insult to the women who suffered through the Battle of Berlin and unfortunately, this film version is accepted as truth among younger generations. As my girlfriend said, " die Russen waren nicht so schlecht..." It seems to be difficult for Germany to produce a truely objective film from the German point of view. The post war films, both DEFA and UFA are (IMO) much better since both the actors and directors lived through this period of time.

The post-war war films of both DEFA and UFA would be an interesting thread here someday...

          Erich

            Hi,

Terrible atrocities were committed in Berlin. and in most German areas occuupied by Soviet forces.
My wife's familly had terrible experiences from Russian soldiers, although weirdly my mother-in-law seems to "tell the truth" about the rape and abuse; whilst her younger sister often tells me that "the Russians treated us well"!
I think this is a case of "blocking out" extremely unpleasant experiences endured by German civilians by Soviet forces to enable them to "carry on" in sxtreme circumstances.

            Best wishes,

            John
