    HJ Books

Samir, I have went throught a lot of Hitler Youth books. There are many books available, some hard to find and a little expensive. One reasonably priced which has quite a few pictures is Hitlerjugend in War & Peace 1933 to 1945 by Brenda Ralph Lewis. The following are more expensive and harder to find Youth led by Youth 3 different volumes by Philip Baker, 2 volumes THE HJ by John Angolia, The Hitler Youth by David Littlejohn . There are many other good titles available. Always some for sale on ebay. Gary

      Hi Garry,

Sorry for the late response, been busy at work due to the holidays.

I will definately look into these books. The only one I ordered so far is "In a Raging Inferno". I was told its an interesting read with lots of period photos.

      Regards
      Samir

            re: 'the Division'

I think Samir was inquiring about books detailing the 12th
SS Panzer Division, Hitlerjugend, as opposed to the Hitler Youth.
Although one evolved from the other, books on each subject are
mostly quite different, in content (Fascist boy scouts, vice Waffen SS).
Hubert Meyer's giant tome on the 12th SS Panzer Division has
plenty of pics and even more info and was published by (I think)
Federowicz, in Canada. It might be out of print now. Bender Publishing also did an interesting volume called 'Blood & Honor'(?) about 20 years ago, also detailing the Hitlerjugend division.

A good overall history of the entire HJ, including some good information on the 12 SS "HJ" is the book by H.W. Koch "The Hitler Youth: Origins and Development 1922-1945". As stated in a review: "....Koch, himself a former Hitler Youth brings a unique sensitivity and perspective to the history of one of the most fascinating vehicles for Nazi thought and propaganda. He traces the Hitler Youth movement from its antecedents in nineteenth-century German romanticism and pre-1914 youth culture, through the World War I radicaliztion of German youth, to its ultimate exploitation by the Nazi party."

An excellent and exhaustive history of the 12SS is definately Hubert Meyer's book. Sadly Meyer recently passed away. His book is avaliable quite cheaply due to the publisher Stackpole.

Although dated in some parts an outstanding, albeit short, history of the 12SS is the chapter in the 3rd Volume of H.P.Taylor and R.J.Bender's excellent series "Uniforms, Organisation and History of the Waffen-SS".

NOTE: I am not into unfiforms and that type of stuff therefore I can't comment on the other books that specialise in that.

The best unit history on the 12th SS are the books by Hubert Meyer. You can buy both volumes as paperbacks, published by stackpole. If you are looking for simply a picture book, a relatively inexpensive one is the one by Walther: http://www.amazon.com/Twelfth-Armore...s+hitlerjugend
