Picked up this book on one of our trips to Bangor, Maine. Priced at $19.95 it was worth the read.
This book covers some of the seamen that served on the U-Boats. Everyone from an Ordinary Seaman to a U-Boat Commander are here. Some of the boats are famous and some of them not so much.
There are 250 pages (incl notes and bibliography) which are broken down into 21 chapters. Each chapter covers a certain sailor and his boat and a certain story that he remembers. Some are funny, some tragic and some just on the normal life on the boat during a patrol. They talk of certain battles, their time as a POW or surviving the sinking of their boat. All of the stories are good and the last one was very interesting, U-195, in that it surrendered while on a mission to the German allies, Japan. What happened to the crew while their and in allied custody makes for a good story.
I found the book interesting and it can be read in a couple of nights if one so chooses. Recommended.
