re: French language edition of the book by Heimdal
The French version is not yet in print so that is why Amazon is refusing orders. It was originally anticipated for June, 2012, so this caused some
awkward ordering situations. I suspect that when the book is finally published, and after it is shipped overseas to Amazon's warehouse, it
will eventually be available from Amazon.com
Thr title will be 'SS Prises de la Guerre', and as noted elsewhere, it will
have a different photo layout and will probably total more pages, in size.
Unless you like looking at the different layout a lot, there will be no
reason for English speaking collectors to get the French language version.
I know there are a lot of potential cross-over readers in Canada.
Very nice book, fantastic photos. Well worth for the cloth collectors.
Only one thing I would like to talk about.
Alles Kaputt and the Brosow group if in my view not belonging all together. Even when it is told it is a family find. The northern collectors knew Brosow very well I assume.
There is another thread running on this forum about the Brosow grouping, (page 302 of the book), a photo of which was sent to me by Kelly Hicks not long before the book was completed. I was not aware that the grouping was being publicly qustioned on the WAF forum, until the book was in-print. However, even if all the elements of the grouping were not originally together, the award documents are certainly those of Siegried Brosow. Also, it has not been categorically proven if the tunic and other elements actually belonged to Brosow or not. Bob Hritz and I discussed this at the MAX and he is not convinced that the other elements of this grouping have been discredited. Mr Hicks purchased the grouping from individuals in Germany in the spring of 2012 and those individuals represented themselves as relatives of Herr Brosow. Mr Hicks sent me a photo of the grouping in the good faith belief that what he had purchased was a "virgin, out of the woodwork, family acquisition".
If it proves to be less than that, my apologies. It is a reminder to approach all purchases with caution-even those made directly from alleged families of veterans.
Mark, no issue with u at all about this group.
The documents where auctioned only 30min away from my place.
For over 20k Euro. Who bought the documents? Not a normal family figure.
Looks to me like a big time set up. Some Northern people even knew exactly what this friendly Mr. Brosow got and what he left. There no way excesues for this group needed in regards how all is original together.
I think that reads 'SS Sportschule Nurnberg', although the numbers or
letters which follow are not readable by me. Since Bob Hritz owns the piece, he might be able to shed additional light on the significance of this
band.
As to the Brosow grouping, I was blindsided by it, as well. With it coming from a highly respected and experienced collector, I saw no reason to question what it was purported to be. If there is a 2nd edition of the book, that page will either be eliminated or at the least, the wording of the caption will be modified, to reflect more accurate information.
Ian is right. Publication tends to lend credibility to items or groupings, but
sometimes things aren't as purported to be, so publication does not equal proof of anything.
Again, aplogies for publishing this, without thoroughly vetting the Brosow
grouping.
It cannot be Nuremberg about the following . Letter and the / letter.
Must be a citiy name with like . I'm Wald
For my opinion own knowledge is the most important thing.
Many where falling also on the nose with trustfull opinions.
Of course some a good and also some are bad, and that's how it is.
Bought also something years ago from an expert and returned it hours later.
I've inquired about that cuffband and received the following info from Bob Hritz: The inscription reads 'SS-Sportschule Stirnburg i. M. ' (Main). So my
book caption is incorrect. That cufftitle is now in the D. Delich collection.
