New book "The Awards of the Heer"

The latest book of B&D Publishing just went to the printer. The title is:

"The Awards of the Heer"

by Dietrich Maerz/Bernd Hartmann.

Every order, decoration, medal or recommendation a soldier of the German Heer could receive is presented in a comprehensive and up to now not available completeness. Each chapter is divided into:

- history
- regulations
- design
- the order/badge and all the grades
-packages
- award documents
- the order/badge in wear (photos)
- miniatures/stickpins
- fakes and reproductions
- 1957 version
- footnotes of the chapter
- special bibliography for the chapter

Page count per chapter ranges from 64 pages for the Order of the Iron Cross and 44 pages each for the Order of the German Cross and Order of the War Merit Cross to an average of 30 pages for the war badges of the army. Volume I has over 440 pages with over 800 pictures, mainly in color.

The purpose of the set is to provide a quick but comprehensive reference for the collector. Sometimes it is good to know, what makers there were, what the regulations were in force and how a specific detail of the badge looks. The set cannot and will not replace the superb monographs written in the last years, they are a guide for the beginner and a help for the advanced collector.

I am very happy, that nearly all the authors of the earlier books here in the USA and in Europe provided help, proof reading and advise in order to make sure that the book is correct and reflects the latest research. You know who you are!

Volume II will most likely be ready for the SOS 2013 and has the content as attached. The main manuscript is already finished.

Both books are in the same size and style as all the B&D Publishing books. A special leather edition (dark gray) of both volumes will be available, limited to 50 examples.
