    Heinz G. Konsalik

When I was a kid, I had a book by Heinz G. Konsalik named "Die Rollbahn".

Does anyone here have any info on this writer? Is his books fact or fiction?
Did he even serve in WW2?

As a kid I loved his books, read all of them. My favorites were the Stalingrad and Monte casino ones.Jacques

Same goes for me - he is a very well-known author here in Germany, especially during the 50ties-70ties.

My grandfather and his Landser-Generation used to read a lot from him - he enabled them to find a way to their own - and hardly ever shared - personal experiences.

Hi! I'm a huge fan. There is some stuff about Konsalik on the internet, though not much, considering how well his books sold. He was a bestselling author from the 1950's to the 1980's. In that time he was ignored or ridiculed by the literary establishment because he did not align himself with the politically correct leftism; and he is mainly ignored now. I think his books are all out of print, and difficult to obtain. He famously derided critics, saying he wrote for his readers, who knew what they wanted. He also avoided left-right distinctions, taking the view that the war and the postwar years were testing times for many people. My favorite book of his is "Die Drohung". Read and enjoy!

            Heinz Konsalik.

As a prolific author it is unfortunate so many of his works remain unpublished in English.

"Love on the Don" parts 1&2 were particularly good at describing the topography around Kalach na Donu. He was an outstanding author on romantic fiction, and was described at the time of his genre as being Europe's best selling romantic author.

"Summer with Danica" and most of his books made mention of his experiences during WWII. You can likely obtain some of his books from ABE bookstore online although by way of opinion the postal charges for mailing books is often prohibitive to the purchaser when nowadays many suppliers provide free mailing. Konsalik's paperback books published fortunately are lightweight.

Having read most of his English translated works they are a recommended buy, they are never dull and always contain an interesting plot. They are also well structured and engrossing. It is my understanding Heinz Konsalik additionally wrote a number of fictional books pertaining to Asian countries in his original German, he married an Asian woman whom he later separated from. It is a joy to have a collection of his writings to periodically refer back to in the wonderful society of books.
