just finished these memoirs by John Stieber , as a 12 year old he was sent from Ireland (where his Austrian mother and father worked ) to finish his schooling Germany , on the outbreak of war he served in the RAD , then as a flak helper , then volunteered for the luftwaffes "Hermann Goring" division , he served as a loader in a self propelled flak-wagon on the eastern front ! i enjoyed this book , he really tells it as it was for him with no add ons or moralising , he freely admits that his lot was so much better than the infantry ,in fact he never did any hand to hand fighting , one thing he was though --- lucky ! ---- good read , paperback published by poolberg a Irish publisher 1995

Brilliant!
Just finished reading this brilliant account, to my knowledge the ONLY memoir of a Hermann Goring enlisted man published in English. Please correct me if I'm wrong! (I must improve my German soon!)
I've put an in depth review of the book in this thread (page 2), but please don't read it if you're intending to read the book soon as there are spoilers!

Hardcover
Hi,
I had a search and it looks like some hardcovers were printed:-
http://www.betterworldbooks.com/agai...853715328.aspx
http://www.alibris.co.uk/Against-the...er/book/165640
The cheaper one sounds a bit ragged, the one in good condition is £278/ $450 !!!. I have always preferred hardcovers myself but I might decide to make do with my paperback version...
On another note I was sad to discover that Mr Stieber died in 2010. I would love to have met him. Simply amazing memoir.
