Truly evocative amature film of AAF base Thorpe Abbotts during WW11!

Hi,amazing 44 min amature mainly colour footage of this airfield and its inhabitants.Lots of B17s early and late marks and the men who flew and serviced them.Looks like who ever did the filming had access all areas,in the air on the ground crash scenes etc.Truly wonderful! Film is from the East Anglia film archive, one or two others featuring other bases in the archive, the other one I watched wasn't of the same quality. As they say enjoy! I certainly did and spare a thought for what they did for us.Kind regards David.

Yes wonderful stuff, not like all those Hollywood type warfilms, these fellows were actualy in the thick of it.Its amazing the amount of footage that has come to light over the last few decades and with the coming of the internet, when I were a lad you were lucky to find a few black and white pictures let alone 40 mins of nicely shot colour film! Guess some of these airfields were not that far from where you live.Regards David.

MANY of the scenes here would make beautiful outtake stills. Very interesting to see the original colors, the everyday looks of non-movie stars. ( One of my main gripes about war movies - things always look so muich shinier, cleaner, than they actually were. ) ( For example, you can see pretty good oil stains around the B-17 engines. ) Also interesting to see the bombing radar with the date, late war April 14, 1945. I'll have to try to figure out which radar that was. Also interesting no flak or Luftwaffe on that last mission - probably none left!
Thanks indeed for posting that link. -Hue
