WOW.....This is almost the same review and even the Star War style fight scenes description made by a good friend who saw it in one of those early pre, realese showing. The same advice given by Stonemint about saving your time and money was given to me......so I probably will see this movie in DVD and after is put in the .99 cents rental wall section.

Dialogue was laughable--it was as if the scriptwriter was lifting if verbatim from 1950's comic books. Characters were one-dimensional, and the acting was bad all around--has to be Cuba Goodings worst performance ever.

The planes are all CGI, and move almost like x-wings and Tie-fighters from Star Wars. The characters are cliches, with the young kid, the reckless hot-shot, the fatherly colonel, and most egrigiously, the Nazi RKT lead pilot called "pretty boy" (who has a scar on his cheek), and as he dives into the B-17's/Red-Tails, says "no mercy" (I was waiting for him to follow that with "sweep the leg").

The German airfield has all the hangers adorned with swastika flags, just in case you forget that they are nazis. The ME-109's have a white disc over which the swastika is superimposed for the same reason.

You gotta love when the 30mm cannon of the ME-262's hit the P-51's and leave holes like they are from a .22.

I always thought Shining Through was the worst WW2 movie made in recent years--Red Tails makes it look like a historical documentary.

Save your 10 bucks and 2 hours of your life!

If you've been around a while, we've been spoiled by the great war movies of the past. I never get tired of watching "Patton." George C Scott was marvelous. I remember seeing "Midway" at the theatre. They had giant speakers, it might have been called Sensearound, that projected the sound of the Hellcat engines on the deck of the carrier. Made you feel like the plane was right there. The sub plots were usually fiction-love interests, etc. but they were pretty true to the historical part. The last war movie that I saw at the theatre was "Memphis Belle". It was ok but I still liked the AAF documentary better. You'll know if "Red Tails" is a real bummer if the Black audiences give it a thumbs down. I did enjoy the movie "Glory" not so much for the historical accuracy but for the great acting, in my opinion.

        Red Tails

        Hello,
I bet the movie will flop. So far I and my son are the only two that have seen the film at the school I work at. I teach at a K-8 school. No teachers have seen it either.

        Regards,
        Jody

          Hi Chris,
I think I even liked Escape to Athena better.

BTW, there is another subtle message in the movie (ok, about as subtle as a sledgehammer) and that is that 98.9% of the white US Armed Forces were racially prejudiced against "coloreds" (which is the word most of them used for the Red Tails pilots).

Of course, after the Red Tails prove their mettle by not leaving the bombers to go off seeking to increase their scores (like the white fighter pilots do), the Red Tails are then invited into the same white Officer's Club that one of them got beaten up in and everyone lives happily ever after.

We all know their was racism in the US Armed Forces during WW2, and concurrent discrimination, but Lucas manages to cheapen the message and revert to stereotypes.

Just like he ruined Star Wars with the last 3 movies, Lucas has now managed to make a mess of the Tuskegee airmen and WW2 in general.

A movie much longer than two-hours, but maybe a visit to Turkey would be in order?

"Today, Turkey marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day by becoming the first predominantly Muslim country to screen the iconic holocaust documentary, Shoah."

Saw Red-Tails last weekend . . . left the theatre very disappointed.

I really can't understand how Lucas can write the corny dialogue he does,it is laughable and extremely simplistic. hasn't done anything relevant since Raiders of the Lost Ark , or was that Speilberg?

Well to be honest I think that Mr.Lucas great achivement was the original Star Wars movies, the precuels are just an overload and over the top CGI special effects tour of force wich really makes me wonder if "hardware" indeed have overtaken a good story and plot development.

Raiders of the Lost Ark series prove this, for me the first and third are the best.....specialy the third...that one is a classic in my personal book.....but the fourth......what a waste of time, money and great actors cast.......not even the great Spielberg could save that one.

Take Das Boot....based in "real events" made in the 1980's and with mostly "fisical/miniature" special effects...no CGI.....and this movie still hold and surpass latter WWII inspired big budget movies in wich the story and cliches get worst by the millions they spent in the production, of course there are some exceptions like Band of Brothers....but that one was for TV.
