The best WW2 shows from the 1980's

    Hello folks,
What are the best WW2 shows from the 1980's? My favorites were Escape from Sobibor, The Scarlet and the Black and my favorite was Masterpiece Theatres-Private Schulz. Who else watched Private Schulz? I wish they had it on DVD here in the US. I loved the humor in it. I also loved the TV show from the BBC-Allo! Allo! , and the WWI version of the Blackadder-Blackadder goes forth.

Here is a link to the 1st episode of Private Schulz:

What are some of your favorite shows?

    Regards,
    Jody

I enjoyed Private Schulz when it was first broadcast and was overjoyed when it came out on DVD here in the UK.

If you have a multi-region DVD player then the DVD may be available from Amazon.

As far as the programme was concerned I enjoyed Ian Richardson's various roles in it like Major Neuheim but especially the Scottish crook who tried to take the money for himself at the end!

    Great programme!

    Jim

All three were great! My top 3 were "The Bunker"; "Hitler's SS: Portrait in Evil"; and "Inside the Third Reich." I know that Brian L. Davis was the uniform advisor on at least one of them.

Private Schulz--now that brings back memories.....

I love Blackadder goes forth. Cracks me up.

Remember, General Haig showing Blackadder the ground won today on a small table.

" So Sir, where,s the lines"?
" You don't understand THIS IS the ground we won today"

Here,s the written script from 'The Twenty Minuters" funny read.

              Hi Eric,
I love the scene, but I think it is General Melchett and not General Haig.

              Regards,

I just love "secret army". It's not strictly an 80's show (recorded in the late 70's) but i remember it from TV in the early 80's. Great show with a lot of exitement. Beeing a LW enthusiast makes the show even better

                  Hello,
I agree about The Bunker and Inside the Third Reich, they made my top list too. I just could not get past Tony Randall in Hitler's SS (nice peak cap at the start of the show).

                      Hi all,

Got to agree that "Colditz" was a great series!
Not sure of the time of first TV showing, but "Wish Me Luck" - which was about the adventures of female British spies parachuted into France was also a good watch.
This often is shown on the British "Yesterday" channel at the moment.
An American mini-series "The Nightmare Years" based on the books by William Shirer is a top watch for me at the moment, although more about the political scene in Germany with no battle scenes etc.
This was released in 1989, so just scrapes into the time frame!

                      Best regards,

                      John.
